Polyethylene Foam Rolls - IXPE - Formshield (also known as XPE and XLPE) is a cross-linked, closed-cell polyolefin foam used in concrete expansion joints and for gap filling for packaging, thermal barriers, spa top thermal blankets, marine uses, pipe insulation, acoustic insulation, duct insulation and many more. At 30kg/m3, it is waterproof, fire-retardant and has a low thermal conductivity. It is lightweight, flexible and soft to touch, yet strong and resilient for impact absorption. It is also resistant to moisture, many chemicals and extreme temperatures. IXPE rolls with a foil outer surface are often used in air conditioning ducting and in the lining of cabinets.

Polyethylene Foam Rolls - IXPE - Formshield (also known as XPE and XLPE) is a cross-linked, closed-cell polyolefin foam used in concrete expansion joints and for gap filling for packaging, thermal barriers, spa top thermal blankets, marine uses, pipe insulation, acoustic insulation, duct insulation and many more. At 30kg/m3, it is waterproof, fire-retardant and has a low thermal conductivity. It is lightweight, flexible and soft to touch, yet strong and resilient for impact absorption. Used in a variety of applications in construction, industrial, automotive and marine industries. The rolls are 1000mm wide and available with or without a pressure sensitive adhesive backing in various foam thicknesses. With a low thermal conductivity, almost zero vapour permeability, fast and simple installation and trouble-free operation in a variety of internal and external environments. The material is flexible and compressible, and will not break or crack when used around curves or columns. The product is trouble-free and safe to handle, does not emit fibres, dust or other health hazards. It is easy to cut and drill on site and is the number one choice for sound and thermal insulation applications.

FIRE RESISTANT

IXPE foam rolls (Formshield) is an effective insulation against heat transfer. It meets the fire hazard rating AS1530.3 for the building code of Australia. It reduces and absorbs the transmission of heat, noise and vibration.

WATER RESISTANT

Formshield IXPE is a moisture barrier, it has a high resistance to detergents, dilute acids and alkalis, alcohols, ketones, esters, fungi. It is resistant to water absorption and being impervious to water. Being closed cell, it has very low water absorption, the low moisture absorbance tolerates wet environments.

Insulation Foam

I am using this foam for insulation of an aluminium sailing catamaran. It has the necessary fire rating plus is flexible enough to fit to the hull. I am using 2 layers of 20mm IXPE foam to create a noise and thermal barrier inside the boat. The fact that this is closed cell foam gives the boat reserve buoyancy - in this case nearly 5000kg!
