Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a lightweight, rigid, plastic material produced in a range of densities between 13 kg/m3 and 30 kg/m3. EPS Polystyrene is widely used across a number of industries, such as building and construction, insulation, events and much more. Expanded polystyrene sheets and blocks are economical and effective for landscaping and planter box fillers, concrete formwork, voids and block-outs, pipe insulation, protective packaging, floatation and buoyancy applications, and stage sets and product displays and signs.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) provides insulation from temperature and noise and is used as a base for rendered panels. It is suitable for thermally insulating walls, roof, as well as sub-floors. In the building and construction sector, it is a versatile and well-proven product globally, with The Foam Company's geofoam blocks, used as void fillers for civil engineering applications such as bridges and roads. The Foam Company's XPS polystyrene panels are denser and provide enhanced thermal insulation. EPS foam is normally white in colour, but some densities can come in a variant of dye colours in the form of dots.

Properties of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS):

Closed-Cell Lightweight Cellular Plastic

EPS is made up of tiny, closed-cell structures filled with air, making it lightweight yet strong. This structure provides excellent insulation and moisture resistance.

Flame/Fire Retardant

Many EPS products are manufactured with fire-retardant additives, making them self-extinguishing when exposed to flames. This improves safety, especially in construction and insulation applications.

Excellent Floatation Properties

Due to its closed-cell structure, EPS has exceptional buoyancy and is widely used in marine applications across Queensland, such as flotation devices, buoys, pontoons, and boat docks.

Shock Absorbing Properties

EPS is often used in protective packaging and cushioning due to its ability to absorb shocks and impacts, protecting fragile products during shipping and handling.

Low Environmental Impact

EPS is 100% recyclable and does not release harmful chemicals during its lifecycle. Additionally, its lightweight nature reduces fuel consumption during transportation, making it an eco-friendly choice in construction and packaging.

Benefits of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS):

Cost-Effective

EPS is affordable and widely available, making it a cost-effective material for insulation, construction, and packaging compared to alternatives like fiberglass or rigid polyurethane foam.

Easy to Use & Handle

Due to its lightweight nature, EPS sheets and blocks are easy to transport, cut, and shape, reducing labor costs and installation time.

Superior Thermal Insulation

EPS provides excellent thermal resistance (R-value), making it a preferred material for wall insulation, roofing, and flooring in buildings, helping reduce heating and cooling costs.

Water and Moisture Resistance

The closed-cell structure prevents water absorption, making EPS ideal for outdoor and underground applications, such as drainage systems, foundations, and flotation devices.

Versatile Applications

EPS is used across various industries, including construction, civil engineering, packaging, marine, signage, landscaping, and theming for movie sets. It can be custom-cut into different shapes and profiles, making it highly adaptable.

Durable & Long-Lasting

EPS does not rot, degrade, or break down over time, ensuring long-term performance in insulation and structural applications.

100% Australian Made

All our Polystyrene Foam Products are proudly Australian made, manufactured to Australian Standards (AS1366.3), and comply with Australian Building Codes.

100% Fire Retardant

All our EPS foam products are 100% fire retardant, CFC-free, Weather resistant with low moisture absorbency, and provides insulation from extreme temperature and noise.

100% Recyclable and Eco-Friendly

There are no ozone depleting or CFC gases produced during the EPS manufacturing process. EPS helps increase building energy efficiently and thereby reducing overall environment impact. Our EPS products are also 100% recyclable. To find your nearest polystyrene recycling centre, please click here.

Delivered Foam Sheets

The product is as described and satisfactory. The delivery was not handled well. Parcel was sitting in Geraldton for four days before I got to pick it up. Room for improvement. Otherwise satisfied with your service, thank you

Thanks for your positive feedback Brian! - Unfortunately, the delivery side of things we cannot control, and apologise on our behalf of the delay. We had notified the transport company to get in contact with you to collect as soon as it was delivered - apologies if this was delayed on their end - The Foam Co Team
